Tote is a small crofting township, situated on the Southwest coast of the Trotternish peninsula, six miles Northwest of Skye's capital, Portree. Tote Cottage is best reached by car; from Portree take the A87/Dunvegan Road, then bear left onto the A850, towards Dunvegan for 1.4m, before turning right onto the B8036, then Tote road is 0.5m ahead, on the left. Tote Cottage is then a further 0.5m along the road, on the left hand side. By Road
Driving from Glasgow - It is approxiamately 220 miles from Glasgow to Tote Cottage. It will normally take 5-6 hours to drive, in the summer months when the roads are busy it can take a bit longer. Fort William, a small town about half way between Glasgow and Skye, is a great place to stop off to rest, refuel, and grab a bite to eat.
Driving from Inverness - It is approxiamately 120 miles from Inverness to Tote Cottage. It will take about 2.5-3 hours if the roads a quiet, but during the summer it can take a bit longer.
By Ferry
Mallaig (Mainland) to Armadale (Skye) - Just one hour along the A830 from Fort William you will find the historic fishing port of Mallaig. From here you can take a Calmac ferry 'over the sea to Skye' docking in Armadale, on the Sleat peninsula. There are 8 crossings per day, taking just 30 minutes, with your onward journey to Tote Cottage approxiamately a further 1 hour 15 mins. For more information on this route visit www.calmac.co.uk.
Glenelg (Mainland) to Kylerhea (Skye) - If you would like to experience Scotland's last manually operated turntable ferry, you can board 'The Glenachulish' at Glenelg, near Shiel Bridge. The ferry is in service from Easter to mid October, approxiamately every 20 minutes, with your onward journey to Tote Cottage approxiamately a further 1 hour 15 mins. By Bus
The Bus Company 'City Link' offer coaches from both Glasgow & Inverness to Portree on Skye. Full routes and timetables can be found on their website www.citylink.co.uk.

By Train
There is not a railway on Skye. However, there are two train stations on the mainland that are very close and connect to local bus routes.
Glasgow to Mallaig - then take the Ferry to Skye, as above.
Inverness to Kyle – then take the Bus across the Skye Bridge on to the Island, as above.
